Stone, Scrap & Found metals
This metal and stone sculpture came after attending an international artist workshop in Durban called Tangencya , South Africa . After my researches in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Swaziland and other parts of Africa. There was a big concern why this part of Africa was hard hit by HIV and AIDS. It was so prevalent that many families lost at least a member, some were either infected or affected by this pandemic. One of my findings which were not conclusive to this pestilence effects was the common cultural practice in the view of a girl child across these communities. The place of a girl child or a woman was placed inferior and confined to that of child bearing, low education and marrying into arranged marriages. Virtually the practice placed females as sexual objects. I have exhibited this artwork in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Middelburg. I also was on BBC world have your say about this subject and other related debates.
